Our textiles are hand dyed with indigo in North Carolina using a Japanese technique called Katazome. This process begins with the cutting of a stencil from a Japanese paper called shibugami. The stencil is lacquered before a paste made from glutinous rice is pushed through the stencil and onto the cloth. After allowing the paste to settle, the cloth is dyed through successive dips into an indigo vat.
